This name originates from Bulgaria. It is part of the Bulgaria Gazetteer and the SCAR Composite Gazetteer of Antarctica.

Narrative

The island in the Dunbar group off the N coast of Livingston Island in the South Shetland Islands situated 1.3 km ENE of Balsha Island, 600 m SW of Aspis Island, 800 m N of Slab Point, and 350 m W of Organpipe Point. Extending 700 by 250 m. Bulgarian mapping in 2009. Named after the settlement of Zavala and the homonymous mountain in Western Bulgaria.
