Origin

This name originates from Bulgaria. It is part of the Bulgaria Gazetteer and the SCAR Composite Gazetteer of Antarctica.

Narrative

The ice-covered peak rising to 1000 m and forming the N extremity of Lassus Mountains in northern Alexander Island. Situated 3.28 km ENE of Vittoria Buttress, 7.4 km SE of Mount Holt, 6 km SW of Mount Braun in Sofia University Mountains, and 3.53 km N of Mount Wilbye. Surmounts Iliev Glacier to the W, Palestrina Glacier to the N and McManus Glacier to the E. British mapping in 1971.

Named For

Named after the Thracian-born Roman Emperor Galerius, 293-311 AD, who issued in Serdica (present Sofia) the Edict of Toleration legitimizing Christianity in the Roman Empire in 311 AD.
