Narrative

running NE-SW and separating Wiencke Island from SE Anvers Island, with NE entrance between Cape Astrup and Félicie Point, and SW entrance between Cape Lancaster and Cape Kemp. The SW entrance was sighted by GAE, 1873-74, and the channel was called Roosen Strait (Petermann, map, 1875b) or Roosen-Strasse ([Petermann], 1875a) after a Hamburg patrician who contributed towards the cost of the expedition. Rosen [sic] Strasse (Fricker, 1898, map p.122). The channel was navigated and charted by BeAE, 8-9 February 1898; named Chenal de Neumayer after Georg Balthasar von Neumayer (1826-1909), German geographer and promoter of polar exploration; Founder and first Director of Deutsch
