Es posible que esta península haya sido avistada por la Expedición Antártica Belga al mando del teniente Adrien de Gerlache, 1897-1899, y reavistada por la Expedición Antártica Francesa al mando del Dr. Jean B. Charcot, 1903-1905. El nombre le fue puesto por la Expedición Antártica Chilena de 1973-1974 y corresponde al apellido del capitán de corbeta Eduardo Barison Roberts, comandante del AGS. "Yelcho" de la Armada de Chile, quien participó en dicha expedición. Península que separa a la bahía Beascochea de la bahía Leroux, frente a la isla Lahille, en la costa occidental de la península Tierra de O'Higgins.
