An area of discharge that is a bright orange-red iron-rich saline of subglacial origin that emerges at the snout of Taylor Glacier at the western end of Lake Bonney. Feature depicted on: NZ AntTopo50-MF09
The name is descriptive and named by ACAN for use in scientific investigations and scientific literature. The saline discharges from Taylor Glacier were described in Black, Jackson and Berg (1965) 'Saline Discharge from Taylor Glacier', from an event in 1962. It is not clear exactly when 'Blood Falls' was first coined but was in use as early as 1993/94.
