A small island about 1.5 km south-west of Wilkes in the northern part of the Windmill Islands, off the Budd Coast. The area was photographed by USN Operation Highjump (1946-47), ANARE (1956) and the Russian Antarctic Expedition (1956). Named by USACAN after boatswain's mate J A Fitzpatrick, USN, a member of the party from the USS Glacier which made a survey of the Newcomb Bay area in February, 1957.

The island lies between the southern ends of Hop and Filla Islands in the Rauer Group. The highest point is about 40 m. Flag Island is irregularly shaped. Charted by the Soviet Antarctic Expedition in 1956.

A rocky bench on the southern side of Beaver Lake, Mac.Robertson Land, about 3 m above the surface of the lake. The bench is littered with slabs of sandstone. Visited by ANARE survey parties in 1957, 1958, 1959 and 1969.The name is descriptive.

A loose rock-covered area of stagnant ice in the Vestfold Hills about 3 km by 1 km in area. Thermo karst features such as hummocks, lakes, and under-ice streams are common. The entire surface is unstable during the summer melt. The complete cover of loose rocks makes the area strikingly different from the bedrock areas of the Vestfold Hills.

A group of small islands about 3 km north-west of Mawson. Mapped by Norwegian cartographers from aerial photographs taken by the Lars Christensen Expedition (1936-37) and called Flatxyholmane (The Flat Island Islets). The island mapped as Flatxy on the Norwegian map is actually three islands.

This bay of Long Fjord in the Vestfold Hills is a pupping site of Weddell seals. It holds fast ice in some years even when the ice has gone from other areas of the fjord.

A small, rocky island lying off the coast of George V Land, WSW of Cape Gray. Discovered by AAE (1911-14) under Sir Douglas Mawson, who named it after F D Fletcher, a member of the expedition.

A small lake visible on the 1991 Interim Image Map but not shown on the 1971 map, located on the stream about 300 m south of Rookery Creek. On the 1971 map this stream is erroneously shown flowing to the sea; in fact it terminates in Floating Island Lake above the coastal cliffs. The interesting feature of the lake is the presence of two floating peat islands which move about with shifts in wind direction. The names Floating Island Tarn and its alternative, Floating Island Lake, have been in common usage for many years, and the former is used in "Subantarctic Macquarie Island: Environment and Biology", P.M.Selkirk, R.D.Seppelt & D.R.Selkirk, Cambridge University Press, 1990.

An outcrop of columnar rock on the eastern side of Spooner Bay, Enderby Land. Photographed from an ANARE aircraft in 1956. The ANARE Expedition on the Thala Dan led by D F Styles passed close by in February 1961. So named because of its fluted appearance when viewed from the sea.

A colony of emperor penguins situated in a group of icebergs on fast ice adhering to the eastern side of Bjerko Peninsula, Mac.Robertson Land. Discovered on 3 August, 1958 by Flight Lieutenant H.O. Wilson of the Royal Australian Air Force whilst on a flight from Mawson station to Davis station. Named after M.J. Flutter, Officer-in-Charge at Davis in 1958. Note: emperor penguin colonies may not remain in one fixed location. This feature was formally known as Flutter Rookery. It was changed to Flutter Colony in June 2023 to reflect the emperor penguin colony.

Mapped from air photographs taken by the US Navy. Named by USACAN after Cdr. W.F. Flynn, USN, commanding officer Mobile Construction Battalion, Special Detachment Bravo, at McMurdo Station during the winter of 1957.
