An embayment about 170 km wide, between Cape Morse and Cape Goodenough, on the eastern end of Banzare Coast, in Wilkes Land. The name Porpoise Bay was applied by Wilkes to a large bay in 66 degrees S., 130 degrees E. after the brig Porpoise of the US Exploring Expedition (1838-42). The present bay was delineated from air photography taken by USN Operation Highjump (1946-47) and named Porpoise Bay by USACAN. |
