Data from a toxicity test using an Antarctic rotifer (Philodina sp.) exposed to copper in water
This data file contains results from a single toxicity test using an Antarctic rotifer (Philodina sp.) exposed to copper.
The test was run at the Casey research station laboratory in east Antarctica during 2018/2019 summer.
Test biota (rotifers; Philodina sp.) were isolated from soil and moss samples collected from Casey and maintained in a temperature controlled cabinet at 10°C with 12/12 hour light dark cycle for 1-2 weeks prior to testing.
Test solution was Ultrapure water, spiked with copper stock solutions as necessary.
The test was conducted in a 48 microwell plate and consisted 5 copper treatments and a control, replicated four times.
Each treatment well contained 10-13 individual rotifers
Nominal test concentrations were as follows: Cu 0, 10, 130, 200, 400 and 600 µg/L
The test ran for 3 days, with rotifer activity and death assessed via light microscope at 48h and 96h
At the end of the test period samples were pooled by treatment and acidifed to 10% HNO3, then analysed for copper concentration via ICP-MS.
