This voyage landed personnel and stores for the establishment of the ANARE station at Atlas Cove on Heard Island. The expedition's Walrus aircraft was wrecked on 21 Dec during a storm shortly after being landed on the Island and taking the first aerial photographs of Big Ben. Over the New Year period the ship visited Iles Kerguelen to depot fuel for the Wyatt Earp.
