Establishment of MI station
This was the first Macquarie Island expedition. This voyage established the ANARE station at Buckles Bay, near the site of Mawson's expedition base of 1912-13. Army DUKWs were used to land stores and personnel. Border Leicester sheep and Saanen goats were landed. Six Gentoo penguins, six Rockhopper penguins and three young Elephant seals were collected for Melbourne Zoo.
