At the main station a new sleeping hut and ablutions block was built, and heating, sewerage, refrigeration and water facilities were improved. At Hurd Point, a new hut was erected and auroral radar equipment was landed. Not since the initial landing at Macquarie Island in Mar 1948 had a ship stayed as long.
