Richard Hugh John Thompson
Relief
This Macquarie Island relief voyage carried the first women to visit an ANARE station. They were scientists Susan Ingham, Isobel Bennett, Hope McPherson and Mary Gillham. They carried out the ANARE bird and seal program during the six-day changeover and worked on littoral ecology and the effects of nesting seabirds on plants. Ultra-low-frequency radio equipment and a new all-sky auroral camera was installed. One calf, four pigs and twelve hens were offloaded at the Island.
