On this Mawson relief voyage the ship carried a twin-engine Dakota for Mawson. From Mawson the ship pushed through heavy pack ice to make the first landing, from a ship, on the coast in the Edward VIII Gulf area. A dog sledge party was also landed near Proclamation Island to conduct a topographical and geological traverse from Enderby Land to Edward VIII Gulf.
