Comments

Macquarie Island was relieved in an eight day operation. Pre-fabricated portable huts were placed at Bauer Bay, Sandy Bay and Caroline Cove to facilitate biological investigations. The biggest task was the transfer of a hut, catamaran and equipment from Green Gorge to Prion Lake at 300 m on the plateau. Bulk fuel was pumped directly to the tanks on shore - the first time this operation had been attempted on the Island. Five American and two Australian physicists started a series of high altitude cosmic ray measurements which extended to Mar.
