All scientific data collected by the Australian Antarctic program (AAp) are eventually described in the Catalogue of Australian Antarctic and Subantarctic Metadata (CAASM). CAASM can be used to search through AAp data descriptions, and it also provides links to access publicly available datasets, which can either be immediately downloaded or obtained from the Australian Antarctic Data Centre (AADC).

Description

This project aims to expand and enhance knowledge of the biodiversity of AAT and to make this information highly visible and accessible. BEAUT will survey areas in AAT that have not been visited or sampled, extend knowledge of our station areas, and consolidate historical biodiversity information. Field campaigns will utilise Australia's icebreaker RSV Nuyina, as well as deploying teams to coastal areas in east Antarctica and subantarctic Islands. Knowledge of biodiversity in space and time is vital for area protection and management, and will include identification guides, a biodiversity atlas and database, and will contribute baseline data to EAMP (East Antarctic Monitoring Program). BEAUT will also facilitate collaboration with the SAEF SRI and other partners.

Purpose

This is the parent metadata record which lists all associated data sets across marine, terrestrial and lake habitats collected or analysed for the BEAUT project. As such the naming of each data set should follow the convention outlined below:
BEAUT_Biome_Organism/Community_Region_Season
e.g. BEAUT_Terrestrial_Moss_Vestfolds_2024/25
