Evolution and Biodiversity in the Antarctic (EBA)
|
The biodiversity database holds Antarctic and subantarctic flora and fauna in support of the SCAR Life Sciences programme
Evolution and Biodiversity in the Antarctic (EBA)
for 2006-2013.
EBA will explore
|
EBA is the follow on project from the now finished Regional Sensitivity to Climate Change in Antarctic terrestrial and limnetic ecosystems (RiSCC) project. This database will focus on the Terrestrial and Limnetic domains.

Bioregions
The terrestrial areas of the Antarctic and sub-Antarctic are being classified into regions for comparing biodiversity and patterns of distribution.
-
Biogeographical analyses of the Antarctic region has recently been published by Diversity and Distributions.
Download the shapefiles associated with these analyses (including expert-defined bioregions, the new Antarctic Conservation Biogeographic Regions and the Antarctic Specially Protected Area network). - View a polar projection map (pdf) of the region boundaries.
- List of Antarctic Environmental Gradient (AEG) Core Sites from the now finished Regional Sensitivity to Climate Change in Antarctic terrestrial and limnetic ecosystems (RiSCC)
- More information on the Evolution and Biodiversity in the Antarctic (EBA) programme.
The Marine areas are defined by SCAR-MarBIN. See a map of the extents of data that can be used in this portal.
Alien species in the Antarctic or sub-Antarctic
- View the Aliens in Antarctica Seed Database
- Download the seed data used in the PNAS manuscript ‘A continent wide risk assessment for the establishment of non-indigenous species in Antarctica’.

EBA Listserver
The EBA Listserver at eba@lists.aad.gov.au is used to allow members to contribute and receive messages. You must have valid registered email address in order to send emails.
To subscribe to this new list, please contact the Data Centre using the request/feedback form and mention the EBA list server.
Publishing observations to external organisations
The Data Centre has been sending biological distribution data via the Darwin Core schema using Distributed Generic Information Retrieval (DiGIR) query protocol to GBIF and OBIS since December 2003. The data is now also being aggregated at SCAR-MarBIN, which as of May 2006, has being recognised as the Antarctic regional node of OBIS. As at June 2008, the Data Centre contribution is over 750,000 records.
See the list of published data collections with observation counts.
