Land
Large continental area defined by natural boundaries, or partly by natural boundaries and partly by boundaries of political convenience. The term was formally used by explorers for newly discovered lengths of coastline, cf. coast. Outside the area covered by this work the term may be synonymous with territory. The use of land does not refer to the ground, rather it is a generic part of a toponym.
