A flat-topped scarp, facing west, flanking the eastern side of the Lambert Glacier for about 130 km. Plateau-ice over-rides the escarpment from the east. Discovered by Flying Officer J. Seaton, RAAF, whilst on a photo reconnaissance flight in November, 1956. Named after Sir Douglas Mawson.

The summit of Big Ben on Heard Island at about 2695 metres in altitude. Named by the 1948 ANARE Heard Island Expedition after Sir Douglas Mawson, leader of BANZARE 1929-31, who visited the Island in November-December 1929.

A narrow peninsula on the eastern part of the coast of George V Land, which extends for more than 57 km in a north-easterly direction. The peninsula rises to about 457 m above sea level. It is flanked on its western edge by nunataks over 600 m high. The area was photographed by USN Operation Highjump (1946-47). Phillip Law of ANARE flew along the peninsula to its northern end in February 1959 and sketched and photographed it. Named after Sir Douglas Mawson.

The name was first applied on the 1917 edition of the Admiralty Chart and is named for Sir Douglas Mawson, Leader of the Australasian Antarctic Expedition 1911-13.

The hill is named after Gordon Maxwell, master of the MV Cape Pillar during the 1980 Natmap Heard Island Expedition. The highest feature on McDonald Island at about 220 metres. It is centrally placed in the high southern part of the Island. A small cairn was built on the summit of this hill during the 1980 Natmap Expedition and a JMR (Doppler Satellite) survey station established on a high shoulder of the hill. Location of the hill changed after the 2003 eruption.

A glacier about 7 km west of Cape Carr on the Wilkes Coast. Delineated from air photographs taken by USN Operation Highjump (1946-47) and named by USACAN after William May, passed midshipman on the tender Flying Fish, one of the ships of the US Exploring Expedition (1938-42) under Lieut. (later Rear Adm.) C. Wilkes.

A low rock outcrop, which has a domed appearance from the north-east, situated about 11 km south-west of Taylor Platform in the Prince Charles Mountains. Plotted from ANARE air photographs taken in 1956 and 1960. Named after Dr K.J. Mayman, medical officer at Davis in 1964.

Two rounded, dark grey rocks in the sea about 100 m in diameter and about 1 km offshore in the Vestfold Hills. Survey station NM/S/ 267 was established there in January 1979. McCallie, a helicopter pilot, flew survey parties around the Vestfold Hills in 1978-79 in an exemplary manner and made the first landings by air on these rocks.

A high rock buttress on Big Ben, Heard Island running generally north from Davis Dome towards Downes Glacier. Named after James W P McCarthy, Officer-in-Charge and Meteorologist, 1950 ANARE Heard Island Expedition.

An island, about 5 km long and 2 km wide, separated by a narrow strait from Fold Island, Kemp Land. This island was identified as a separate island by D.S. Trail, who carried out geological investigations in the area.

A small nunatak, the top of which is almost at the same level as the surrounding plateau, about 9 km SSE of Depot Peak, Mac.Robertson Land. Discovered from an ANARE aircraft in 1970. Named after I. McCarthy, senior weather observer at Mawson in 1970, a member of the ANARE Prince Charles Mountains survey party in 1971.

An open bay about 20 km wide, just west of Haswell Islands on the coast of Queen Mary Land. Charted by AAE (1911-14) under Sir Douglas Mawson. Named by USACAN after Capt. E.A. McDonald, USN, commander of the USS Burton Island flagship of two ice-breakers which took part in USN Operation Windmill, which obtained astro-fixes in the vicinity.

The largest Island of the McDonald Group. Captain William McDonald of the English ship Samarang discovered the McDonald Islands on 3 January, 1854. He also sighted Heard Island, and until Heard's priority was established (Captain John J. Heard of the American barque Oriental sighted the island on 25 November 1853), some British charts applied the name McDonald group to include Heard Island.
