Whale Survey Data | 224 cetacean sightings were made, totaling 660 animals. Fourteen species of cetacean were seen (8 odontocete and 6 mysticete). Humpback whales were the most numerous baleen whale encountered on the voyage, both in number of sightings (n=68) and total number of animals counted (n=150). Similarly, killer whales (13 sightings, 123 individuals) and pilot whales (5 sightings, 150 individuals) were the most numerous odontocete, while sperm whales were sighted most often (n=21). Observers: A Friedlaender, B Jarrett, V Peddemors and P Hodda Data from 1-Jan-2001 00:00 UT to 7-Mar-2001 00:00 UT For data quality, methods used etc., see ASAC_915_2253 - Cetacean Sightings Survey and Southern Ocean cetacean program at GCMD |
